Top Prospects adding high-value camps to 2022 baseball tournament menu

Nine camps settings with coast-to-coast profile in position to help 14u, 15u players
 
Even with veteran scouts in the mix, there’s something new on the horizon for the Top Prospects program through Triple Crown Baseball.
 
The 2021 season saw Top Prospects roll out its plan to carefully review the skill set and potential of multiple 14- and 15-year-old baseball players, through the eyes of scouts who either had multiple years of Major League Baseball experience and/or extensive time as a player or coach at the highest levels of the sport.
 
The Don Reynolds Baseball Group was able to watch more than 1,000 players through Triple Crown’s Top Prospect tournaments, with 260 formal scouting reports issued. That led to 150 players being invited to join a Top Prospects National team that competed at the Pathway Arizona tournament in September.
 
What’s next for 2022? At multiple Triple Crown and Pathway events, 14’s and 15’s can attend Top Prospects Camps, where the Don Reynolds Baseball Group will identify, evaluate and generate reports on identified players. Separate data collection will be powered by the TCS partnership with College Sports Evaluation. All key indicators (bat speed, exit velocity, running speed, etc.) will be assessed, and athletes who participate in the Top Prospects program will emerge wiser about where they stand and clued into what they need to do next.
 
“The interest both professionally and collegiately is now greater than in the past to identify players at an earlier age. The TC Top Prospects program in collaboration with Don Reynolds Baseball Group has done exactly this,” said Top Prospects director John Casale. “The scouts from the Don Reynolds Baseball Group have identified players and provided direct feedback through a written scouting report; this is not seen in travel baseball. The feedback we have received from players and parents has been promising, and we are looking forward to 2022.”
 
Modern baseball has pushed a lot of parents, players and coaches into the direction of cold analytics, but data points won’t unwind the entire story about how prepared an athlete is to succeed. Just blasting away on a batting tee is not going to tell a player what he really needs to know.
 
Scouts with a professional background can dig into other important topics, like how a player carries himself, his reactions and his ability to support his team. Top Prospects stands behind the idea that in-game evaluations are key to any relevant review of a player’s capacity to play baseball.
 
“The Don Reynolds Baseball Group is a stand-alone group of baseball professionals. Our approach is to identify baseball athletes, educate these players and their parents, and to encourage these players to stay the course in baseball,” said Don Reynolds, who has a deep background in MLB scouting and player development. “Our goal is to use our collective knowledge to assist players and parents navigate this complicated world of baseball. Data is an important piece of this world but not the main focus. We believe a player’s skill set needs to be the main focus in development. We write our reports accordingly.”

Selected 14u and 15u players get a chance at college exposure and challenging competition at the 2022 Pathway Arizona event in September. In 2021, the Top Prospects teams combined to go 5-1 in pool play at Pathway Arizona, with one team reaching the semifinals of the Underclassmen bracket.
 
Top Prospects will continue to connect players with the insight available only through the established scouts – members of the Don Reynolds Baseball Group have numerous contacts in the college game and can also direct players to the other useful camp and showcase settings.
